Master Instructor Bu Kwajanim Taralyn Sorenson
BKJN Taralyn is a 4th Degree Master Instructor with a degree in Psychology and national certification in Refereeing and Coaching. She started Taekwondo with her two oldest children and fell in love when she saw how it was impacting their lives. Always a confident and athletic individual, she was amazed at how Taekwondo increased her confidence, discipline, focus, and fitness. As a long time athlete, she values how the martial arts combine mind, body, and spirit to create strong individuals. BKJN Taralyn had worked with at-risk teens for 15 years in various positions, including youth services and rape recovery, and recognized the value that martial arts could have on such fragile souls. With a strong desire to influence children and give them the tools to succeed before they were faced with such challenges, she opened
Competive Taekwondo Club (now Beyond Sports) with her friend and mentor Master James Bartholomew in 2002. She has been working with Children, Teens, and Adults ever since, teaching them how to have the confidence to stand up for themselves and create their own futures. In addition to her work at BST, she teaches self defense regularly at several high schools, junior highs, and elementary schools with the hope of instilling strength in the youth of her community. She has four children, one granddaughter, and a wonderful husband who supports her work. She is very blessed.
Program Director Sabunim Whitnee Page
SBN Whitnee started Taekwondo over 10 years ago and loves it still. She is a
3rd Degree Black Belt and is working
towards her Masters. She was a 2002
national champion and ran the Cedar
City Extension of CTC (now Beyond
Sports) at SUU for three years. She
graduated from SUU in 2007 with a
degree in English and Accounting.
She is grateful for her husband
Michael, who supports her work at
the studio. Their young daughter spends her days at BST and has been adopted as the studio mascot.
Instructor Sabunim Ron Eyre
SBN Ron Eyre was introduced to the martial arts in 1978 at the age of 16. He reached the rank of red belt in an ITF association before he left for an LDS Mission to San Jose, California. He attended Brigham Young University, and graduated from the program of Manufacturing Engineering. While there he attended several martial arts clubs. After graduation, he took a 15 year hiatus from the martial arts while he and his wife Julianne focused on raising their family of 5 children. In 2003, he joined CTC (now Beyond Sports) and was excited to earn his
Black Belt at last, in the summer of 2004. He earned his
2nd Degree the following year, and his
3rd Degree in March of 2009. SBN Ron particularly enjoys self defense, forms, and breaking things. He is an exemplary martial artist and instructor.
Instructor Sabunim Valerie Mechling
SBN Valerie Mechling
began her study of the martial arts
with CTC (now Beyond Sports) in
2003. After receiving her Bachelor's
degree from Southern Utah
University, Valerie came back up
north and started working toward her
2nd Degree Black Belt, which she
earned in January 2010. Most
recently she earned her 3rd Degree
in January 2012. SBN Valerie
loves to compete, particularly as a
member of the demonstration team
Beyond Force, and also in sparring.
She has competed at many local and
regional events, and fought at the
2011 National Championships in San
Jose. She is also an
internationally-certified referee in
both sparring and sport poomsae. In addition
to Taekwondo, SBN Valerie is an
accomplished author; her first novel
The Tale of Telsharu was published in
June 2011. SBN Valerie loves all the facets of Taekwondo, and
especially enjoys sharing her love of the martial arts with her students at Beyond Sports.
Instructor Bu Sabunim
Holly Wise
BSBN Holly Wise began her martial
arts journey in 2004. She received
her first degree at age fourteen and
worked hard to earn her 2nd Degree by her sixteenth birthday.
She simultaneously earned her Black
Belt and enrolled in the Leadership
program in order to become an
instructor. She fell in love with
her job and the impact that martial
arts has on the children she works
with. She worked both for Beyond
Sports and an extension through
the Utah 4H program at Timpanogos
Elementary School. Her martial arts
teaching experience lead her to
choose Elementary Education as a
major for her Bachelors degree,
which she is currently working
towards at Utah Valley
University. While she loves teaching
children, she still loves honing her
skills to make herself a better
martial artist. She went to
nationals for sparring in 2007, and
still loves self defense, breaking,
and kicking.
